CHRYSALIS | Mixed Use Redelopment
CHRYSALIS | A stage in the growth of a caterpillar into a beautiful BUTTERFLY.
The CHRYSALIS was an existing apartment building in NAVI MUMBAI, India which was 50+ years old apartment that had to be broken down to build a new apartment using the current byelaws, new technology and with much more facilities. The project was handed over to a batch of 80 students for us to come up with the best design proposal by Ar. Milind Powar (who is actual architect of this project).
The rule was to provide a flat which has one and a half times more built-up area than the existing area of each flat, and the excess area after providing this can be used to make larger flats or more flats of the same area which can be sold to make profit. I had innitially come up with four different concepts which were rejected by me for different reasons, the final concept which is the CHRYSALIS was a modular design, with eight of its kind in each floor which gets alternated every floor forming a void space which can be used as a green space.
